A HUNTING ACCIDENT
Emil Lotyanu (USSR, 1978)
OFFICIAL WEBSITE

NOMINATED - BEST DIRECTOR - 1978 CANNES FILM FESTIVAL

Deeply atmospheric and beautifully shot, Emil Lotyanu’s popular adaptation of this Anton Chekhov novel takes place in the 19th century countryside of Russia. Beautiful but poor Olga is arranged to marry the elderly prince Urbenin - whose wealth and passionate love she enjoys - until Olga's heart is stolen by Urbenin's younger friend, detective Sergey Kamishev. Torn between love and money, Olga promises her heart to Sergey but can't seem to abandon Urbenin's comfort.

A top-drawer Soviet-era production, A HUNTING ACCIDENT depicts Russian aristocracy in its most decadent glamour.
